Patients are seen by appointment. Appointments can be made in the following ways:

In order to provide the best service for patients and to be able to meet patient demand for both urgent and routine care, we have had to change the way patients can access GP appointments.

In the first instance, all requests for GP appointments, both routine and urgent, will be dealt with by an initial telephone consultation with the doctor. This process will be the same for patients who present in the surgery.

On many occasions, the doctor will be able to deal with issues over the telephone which will save the patient having to come down to the surgery; we have found that many patients prefer this and find they are able to have their query answered quicker than waiting two weeks for an appointment. If the GP feels you should be seen sooner, they will also arrange this.

This also ensures that the doctors are able to follow up patients who they feel need to be seen for chronic on-going illness. The doctor will book any routine follow up appointments they feel are needed at the time of the telephone consultation or appointment.

The GP partners ask that you help them by providing the receptionist with a brief summary of the reason you are ringing. The receptionists are not triaging your call; however they may at times offer you an alternative pathway if this is appropriate. The receptionists have received a lot of training both internal and external in signposting of patients to other healthcare providers e.g. pharmacist, midwife in line with advice from NHS England.

We have extended our healthcare team to include advanced nurse practitioners, minor illness nurse, clinical pharmacist and paramedic to ensure we have a team available to support the doctors and offer our patients the most appropriate healthcare professional.

Appointments for the nursing team are released two weeks in advance and can be booked directly by patients via reception.

The practice is open every Monday evening between 18:30 – 20:00 and every Saturday between 09:00 and 12:00 for pre-bookable extended hours and improved access appointments.
